Working in Intensive CAIR
The artists who are chosen for the ICAIR program will have strong artistic experience and knowledge, ability to be flexible, openness for new learning, and compassion for others.

Workshops take place weekly in the hospital setting. Positions are paid and artists are expected to adhere to hospital policies and procedures. In order to be fully prepared for the residency, artists must attend an in-depth training program conducted by ArtWorks and the participating hospital.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include:
  • Provide art lessons/sessions to patients both 1:1 as well as in small groups
  • Prepare lesson/session outlines for ArtWorks supervisor
  • Prepare materials prior to hospital visits
  • Help display finished artwork in the hospital
  • Attend meetings with ArtWorks administration as needed
  • Attend special events associated to residency program
  • Keep an artist log related to work with patients
  • Complete self-evaluations and evaluations of the residency
Qualifications and Special Requirements:
  • Minimum of 2-3 years experience in area of expertise
  • Experience teaching the arts
  • Bachelors degree in an art related field preferred
  • Experience working with children preferred
  • Flexibility to work with small groups and individuals
  • Comfortable in the hospital setting

There will be future Artists in Residencies throughout the New Jersey/New York Metropolitan area that will become available. We are interested in all creative arts including visual arts, musicians, dancers, writers, and other artists with specialties that would be appropriate for the pediatric and hospital setting.
