About the Artwork “The Young Women’s Program (YWP) at the Initiative for Women with Disabilities Elly and Steve Hammerman Health and Wellness Center at NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases held a five session painting workshop in fall 2009. The YWP was commissioned to create these paintings for the newly renovated Elly Hammerman Pediatric Inpatient Unit. The participants, young women with physical disabilities, ages 14-21, selected various subjects and painted them in different artistic renderings of self-expression. Seven of the original watercolors and their corresponding note cards or note pads are exhibited here. The note cards and note pads that feature this artwork were packaged and sold to benefit the YWP.”
